An Exciting Announcement - EXPANSION

Well - it has been the worst kept secret of the last few months so I had better reveal some, if not all!

We hope to relocate our shop into exciting new town centre premises in late summer this year.

The new location is in the heart of the town and is HUGE - 5000 square ft at ground floor!

We have great faith in town centres, but we must all accept that they are changing. We believe that this change can be for the good, as there is a marvelous opportunity now for independent businesses to really make their mark, and for town centres up and down the country to regain their identities.

For the last fifty years, it has been impossible to tell from the HIgh Street shops which town you were in. That's going to change. Soon, for instance, people will say Bedford? That's The Eagle Bookshop.

More information to follow very soon!

Summer Bargains!

An early book of psalms with music, the first ever Guinness Book of Records, an early cookery book, an early Darwin Journal of Researches and a Lakeland beauty - these lovely items kick off a summer season of auction bargains. We hope to present a different batch each Sunday through the summer.

Each book will be offered at just 99 pence start with NO RESERVE via our eBay trading name aumbus.

'Why?' I hear you ask. We're generous and reckless of course, but sometimes we just need to prune the stock. Go grab a pruning!

You can click on our auction page to admire this week's bargains.

First Photo of the Forth Bridge, Signed & Dated by Designer

Is this the first ever photograph of the Forth Bridge?

Taken eight years before its completion, and signed and dated by the designer Sir Benjamin Baker in May 1882, it is a photograph of the model he used to demonstrate his amazing, innovative design to a specially appointed parliamentary committee. They were impressed, as we all know, and the rest is history - it has become one of the most iconic structures in the world.

And that's not all... on the back of the photo is a pencil sketch, presumably in Baker's hand, demonstrating the theory of the cantilever principle. You can even imagine him drawing it for the Prime Minister. Absolutely amazing.

I am thrilled to have purchased this, and I'll be devastated when I sell it - a sentiment the bank manager just won't understand!
