Ramanujan's first paper published in the UK after arriving in Cambridge to study with G. H. Hardy.
The paper was read at a meeting of the Cambridge Philosophical Society by G. H. Hardy on 25th October 1915 and printed for publication as part of the transactions of the society in 1916.
Described as a 'beautiful' work - and certainly one of the most famous of all mathematical papers - it had a rather restricted distribution in wartime Europe, as some institutions which may regularly have received the communcations of the Cambridge Philosophical Society were unable to do so. Perhaps as a result of this, some original, undistributed copies still remained when the society reorganised its storage this year (2024) and we were delighted to be able to purchase them.
