David Blackburn grew up in the industrial town of Huddersfield, but was drawn to the rolling hills gritstone walls and moors of the Yorkshire countrryside. This was the first visionary landscape that he recorded "...and then the juxtaposition of old mills and chemical works with fields, rocks and streams makes for a sort of readymade abstraction about the environment."
Through Blackburn's paintings, one can see an expression of form, and the amibiguities and distortion of scale in landscapes familiar to him.
