Dr Florens Deuchler is a speicalist in european medieval history and art. He was appointed Professor of Medieval Arts in New York University and set up the New York Cloisters as a centre for medieval scholarship.

Here, he celebrates Duccio, an Italian painter active in Siena, Tuscany, in the late 13th and early 14th century - he is considered one of the greatest Italian painters of the Middle Ages.
